Pros: Great patients-first mission that all align toWicked smart employees and leadersDecent pay and growth Good brand name for resume Strong and diversified product portfolio (smart strategies)Cons: Out of control high politics. Politics has grown tremendously the past 6y as the company doubled in size. Much more cutthroat- especially in Minneapolis. No work-life balance- run lean and hide bonus OT project works as "growth development opportunities"- it's very very normal to work 50hr+/wk at salaried levels (all), and 60+ in Dir+ roles. Company has changed a lot in top ranks- definitely not as warm and familial as it used to be. Sub cultures vary greatly- certain functions/businesses/regions are much healthier than others- some are in a great spot and some are toxic.Used to be more best-in-class in pay and benefits packages, now just overall "competitive"

An employee must follow any culture theory / norms put forth by leadership otherwise you do not fit in with team member. Fast-paced, constant change in IT systems, lacking in clear/concise communication during the work-day. Too many people in the mix with any given project or daily activities.
Not for me. As a contractor you usually get the inexperienced manager whom places themselves as "all knowing" and faced ego centric mentality from the majority of the staff. There are employees that are exceptional and management should beware of high burnout rate.
Medtronic leadership is driven by the Mission established at its founding in 1949. Business decisions and the resolution of issues and challenges are influenced by questions surround the furtherance of contributing to human welfare by the application of biomedical engineering to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. This translates to care for patients as well as employees. I recommend Medtronic to anyone looking for a career where they are motivated by contributing to and achieving things bigger than themselves.

I worked as a change management consultant on HR/IT initiatives during the Medtronic & Covidien merger. It wasn't change management so much as it was project management communications to internal audiences to support the Medtronic beliefs and cultural norms.
