If you like to be overworked and understaffed, apply at Medtronic...

The Surgical Technologies division at Medtronic in Jacksonville will work you to death and will still try to place more on your plate. The entire time I was employed there (4 1/2 years) our dept was severely understaffed. People would leave and management would not replace them. Management is a complete joke. Its all about "who you know" at this company. Double standards abound. You are expected not to be a minute late, but management walks in whenever they feel like it. Total hypocrisy. Then there is the month end/quarter ends...you will be there for at least 10 hours per day (and these always land on a Friday) And do not bother to question any process or decision, they do not like people who think out of the box. They simply want you to come in, stay quiet, work like a dog and be grateful that you have a job. If you wish to be miserable...go ahead and work for Medtronic.

Great Company/management could be better

The company as a whole has a good workplace environment. They try to keep up the office morale. The company does a lot of donating and charity runs which I think is great. In the department I worked in, there were many changes being made which made the day to day a little difficult to hold up the dept morale.

A stressful place to work but could be rewarding

My work at Medtronic was in a very busy office dealing with hospital queries plus placing orders for the hospital ,i learned a lot about the medical working of hospitals ,my co-workers were very helpful when i started in the company i made some great friends which i am still friends with still ,the most enjoyable part of the job was the fact that i was helping people get on with there life .

It started out great, but now the morale feels low

It was a great place to work at first. People were happy, everything as fun, pot lucks, free lunches, incentives, bonuses. In fact, I have made a good amount of friends working here. However, recently it feels like more of a numbers game now compared to how we were before. Our company cared about the customers before anything else. Whatever we could do to take care of their needs is what we strived for. Now it is only about how fast you can get off a call and how long you stay in after call work. You would be asked "is everything ok?" or "do you need any help?", but really they meant, "ok, hurry and finish up." People no longer seem too happy there.

Great for a student

It was wonderful to be able to not make a commitment to a job while I was attending school. I was able to gain a lot of experience in a wide range and variety of work environments by being sent on multiple assignments through this temporary agency.

It's a good job

I've worked for Medtronic Diabetes for about 8 years. I started in the in-bound call center making $14.50, moved into order processing, insurance verification,etc. After 8 years I am making about $19.50 an hour with a great 401k plan and really good medical benefits. Each role I was in over the years has had its common share of work stress but nothing unusual. Of course, there are things that annoy me but I didn't find myself feeling micromanaged or overworked. Some people did. Personally I'm not the type of person to get hyped up about new processes or decisions management makes that I don't understand. I just come in to do my job and leave. MAJOR PLUS: -You do feel good about working here because you really are helping people. Medtronic technology is truly life-saving and that's a definite motivator. -There was almost always overtime available. I often did feel pressured to put in overtime on days that I really wasn't feeling it but...I sucked it up and in the end enjoyed the bigger paycheck. -There's a Starbucks in the cafeteria at the Northridge location. -You get quarterly or annual bonuses depending on which department you work in. They are usually around $500 every 3 months, even more for people who work in other departments like StartRight, Pump Order Services, etc. If your bonus is annual, it's a minimum of 5% of your total annual salary + extra if the company performs well. There were so many around me who had worked for the company for even longer so even though we have a tendency to gripe about this and that, I think that speaks to the quality -

Metric driven workplace

Training is adequate with most of the learning being on the job. Having multiple roles I learned alot about closing sales, analysis and what's important to business leaders. In my current role I use a lot of interpersonal relationship building skills on the phone with clients both internal and external. My co-workers are very motivated and the environment has a healthy amount of competition. The most rewarding part of my current position is helping people understand more about how they can leverage our product to succeed in managing their condition and helping them reach their goals. The hardest part of my job/company is being passed over for opportunities I am well qualified for.

Making Diabetic Pump parts

I would Work on doing the diabetic pump pedestals i would be on an assembly line and at the end of the day i would have to countdown how many we have and write it down on the computer. I would also do labels for the pedestals.

very great workplace environment

it was a great day at work everyday. everyday I would learn a different task and gain knowledge of it. the management team were all great people and enjoy working with them. my coworkers were great people to work with. there were most coworkers that were great or some workers that had off days so attitudes were not that great but did not affect the work at all. the hardest part of the job is keeping up with all the knowledge and also consider this the most enjoyable part as well because I love a challenge.

A Typical Day

Duties included answering inbound calls, while processing faxed and electronically submitted orders, as well as returns and credits. Required me to manage my time wisely with little to no supervision. Hardest part of the job was not being able to please every customer or patient, but the most rewarding was a patient or customer thanking you for taking the time to assist them with their needs like no one had in the company before.

Always pushing you to strive to achieve your best.

I enjoyed working here and management made the job fun. We had bonuses and incentives for productivity. I once won a 100 $ gift card, won free lunches from the cafeteria numerous times, and gift cards to Target and HEB. The environment is much like a typical call center but you are assisting patients with their medical supplies for treating diabetes and there is a level of knowledge required regarding the supplies and diabetes. I really liked my co - workers and remain friends with many of them. The hardest part of the job was dealing with angry customers who may not have had their needs met. I learned that most of those customers just want to speak and if you listen attentively and help them , they become calm and happy. I felt good helping people and this was the most rewarding thing I did. I also found it very enjoyable to meet new people from all over the country through the phone and make them satisfied with the level of service I gave them.

Fantastic Job

I was in charge of inbound and outbound calls to help out customers with diabetes, I had to call insurances and doctors and also work the order to the fullest to get all the information needed for the patient to get their supplies. The hardest part was listening to the bad attitude of the customers when they waited till the last minute to order then expect right away or they will die they would say. I loved helping the people and also I was able to work at home and get all the overtime that I wanted.
