A good place to begin a career

Working as a Data Tech for AWS on night shift can be a good opportunity for those looking to get into a sustainable career. There is a lot to learn at first and the experience can take you far. The workplace culture is pretty toxic, and if you do not kiss up to management it will slow your progress. The best part of the job is there is little micromanaging.

High pressure, demanding deadlines, at least in China, zero respect for public holidays and weekends when Director/VP level needs some thing

Excellent opportunity to improve wriwritten and verbal communication skills, strong writing culture with excellent frameworks and structured approach to problem-solving and doing business. Customer first definitely comes at the expense of work life balance, compensation is slightly less generous than other companies in the industry, advancement is slow, it’s very difficult to move up internally in the company more than one level above

Amazon is a horrible place to work at it's cool if you looking for a stepping stone job but that's literally it. The managers literally only care about productivity.

i think its a great place for early career. the work can be demanding at times, esp near deadline. but overall, can really gain much responsibility in short time.

Interesting

It seems good so far. Lots to learn, shadow a pro as training first few months. Long days but experience for me is worth it. Grind early and get the dream job later.

It's what you make of it.

I've been with Amazon going on 7yrs, when I first started I loved going to work. It was a great and fun atmosphere. Now being here a while I've learned, seen, witnessed that to advance and climb hire, you have to be liked, don't express your thoughts and kiss up to your superiors. I've been looked over for advancements to others who only been working here for a day. Knowledge means nothing here. It's very frustrating and a slap in the face. I won't play the race card because I don't want to believe that's the case but people of color are rarely promoted at my site. When you speak up about it, they say that person may interviewed better than you. How can that be the case when you go to ask them a question about the job they don't know the answer. It's all about who you know, who likes you and it's blatant.

You are a number and nothing else. Toxic!

Do not work here if you can help it. Amazon is a big name but treats their people like they are ants to be stepped on. No support at all, you're expected to know everything as soon as you start, no training. Still job hunting because definitely not my forever home.

Great team work the employees work together to help each other more than the management team. Once you learn the job everything else is a breeze and the job becomes easy.

Great place to learn but stressful

You will learn a lot of software engineering skills here as it is a fast paced environment, and there is a lot expected of you. But this learning comes at a cost of burnout. But its great the company is giving everyone a chance to interview with them due to the amount of growth they are experiencing.

Fun colleagues, good pay, ridiculous KPIs

Highly talented people got hired to do monotonous, repetitive tasks. My job as a sales development rep is simple but the KPIs are ridiculously high given that the leads are pushed to us and we are asked to hit the targets regardless of the lead quality. High pressure. Can't take leave if you haven't hit your numbers. Can't transfer internally if you do not perform well in your current role.

It’s a cult, not a culture

The title says it all, and the golden handcuffs will keep there for 2 years. Good luck! You will speak, think, eat, sleep the leadership principles, and they’ll still be weaponized against you. Good managers are rare, and very few are interested in anything other than reporting up.

Disorganized and sprawling with vast upward mobility

It seems as if Amazon is building Data Centers too fast and doesn't have a good system in place to standardize and implement the builds and operations. There is however no end to the ability to climb upwards if you have any type of ambition and drive. 12-hour shifts and being on nights is a possible situation you could find yourself in for a while. Just like with most places, an Amazon Data Center is what you make it.

Toxic work culture

fight for survival.Nothing much to review, no knowledge sharing and sometimes very suffocating. But the work quality is good and learning is good. Can join for an experience, but be prepared to shift.

Fun place to work

Awesome place to work. If you are looking for a chill and relaxed job to do, then this is the job for you. Coworkers are all nice and help full when it comes to the work load. Everyone is a team player. Management team is also great and nice.

Good place to start. Good people. A great place to learn. I really enjoyed my teammates. I started as a Network technician and finished as a project engineer for critical projects.
