Company is amazing but management's attitude can be iffy is you're in cape town vs Johannaesburg
IT support associate (employé actuel) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 30 janvier 2023
Company policies, international staff, training and benefits is great. You get free transport in and out, shifts follow the sun so no night shift (at least in my department which is IT support). Site has a cafeteria with free fruits and vegetables, a fancy coffee machine, a sandwich maker, halaal and non halaal microwave, toaster, kettle, dishwasher and a fridge full of refreshments and milk (almond milk included). Training lasts 4 weeks. There is ample opportunity for growth if you take on extra tasks. They offer a non refundable IT or HR bursary for permanent employees. There are affinity groups for the support/development for people with disabilities, the LGBTIAQ+, people of colour, etc. Only problem is that some of the leadership I encountered in Cape Town were not friendly, however the leadership in Johannesburg was so friendly, polite, responsive, interactive and kind. I think this can be attributed by a cultural difference and the history/reputation of the western cape. Meaning, people tend to clique up based on familiar physical and cultural attributes
Points positifs
free transport, no night shift, Site has a cafeteria with free fruits and vegetables, a fancy coffee machine, a sandwich maker, halaal and non halaal microwave, a fridge full of refreshments and milk (almond milk included).
Points négatifs
Leadership in cape town can be a bit cliquey

Very fast paced and challenging
Senior Product Manager (ancien employé) - Reston, VA - 28 janvier 2023
Very fast paced and challenging, definitely for folks who are self starters and want to take the initiative. Learn to write effectively, teams do not use Powerpoint.

Repetitive day
Cloud Support Engineer (employé actuel) - Dallas, TX - 4 janvier 2023

A lot to learn but good
AMS Operations Associate (employé actuel) - Seattle, WA - 3 janvier 2023
The onboarding process is a lot. It's worth it if you stick it out. My team get to be 100% WFH so that is great. I think AMS will be a way better place when things get ironed out of the next few years.
Points positifs
Wfh, opportunies to grow
Points négatifs
Difficult onboarding

Great pay, miserable life
Data Scientist II (ancien employé) - Arlington, VA - 22 décembre 2022
I started out really excited to be at such a great company and I was ok with the really fast pace right from the beginning. Besides general management issues I found that there's embedded in the culture this idea that you can manufacture innovation just by moving really fast all the time and keeping the pressure high constantly. Maybe that works for some people and maybe some incorrectly think it works for them, but it doesn't work for me. On the plus side, there are some incredibly smart and fun people there.
Points positifs
Nice office spaces, lots of flexibility
Points négatifs
High pressure culture, delusional about how innovation happens

Great environment
Recruiting Coordinator (ancien employé) - Remote - 13 décembre 2022
I worked as a recruiting coordinator but was under contract. The workload varies depending on which business lane you supported but overall, there are people who are willing to help you out. The people were great as well.

Good exercise place
DCO Tech, AWS, Hong Kong (ancien employé) - Hong Kong - 9 décembre 2022
A good place for you to study As infrastructure automation continues to increase, technicians spend less time solving problems on their own both good and bad

Toxic work environment.
Universal IT Support (ancien employé) - Herndon, VA - 9 décembre 2022
Seclusion is the main sum of this company. They are not environmentally friendly. They do not recycle properly. There is not any work life balance. A lot of work will be one's burden and the lack of communication is a deal breaker for sure.
Points positifs
Good pay.
Points négatifs
Toxic work culture.

Worst company to work for
Cloud Support Engineer (ancien employé) - Dublin Ireland - 29 novembre 2022
I would give 0 stars to begin with. They don't respect their own employees who work so hard for them. They fired one of my colleagues who had worked so hard for 3 years just because he was having some personal issue and couldn't focus on the job. Apparently performance is the only thing they care.
Points positifs
None
Points négatifs
Everything

The Good - The Bad - The Ugly
Area Manager II (employé actuel) - Salt Lake City, UT - 29 novembre 2022
The Good: You’re paid fairly, have job stability, benefits, opportunities for advancement, and in some locations, very supportive leadership. The Bad: When you don’t get good leadership, steep competition for advancement, and Amazon pays in a Total Compensation Model for managers. The Ugly: MET, Peak, KPI, and the of promoting. It’s easier to come in as a new hire in management than to get a chance at a pod to even interview promotion.
Points positifs
Pay - Stabilify - Benefits - Opportunities - Leaders
Points négatifs
MET - Competition- Metrics - Promoting Procesd

Good and Bad
Engineering Operations Technician (ancien employé) - Virginia - 20 novembre 2022
The guys who do the work are helpful and intelligent. Chief Engineers are sharp, and some are helpful and others are lazy and don’t help you succeed. The Leadership Principles are all talk in my experience, and the Facility Managers are like the Chief Engineers. Security is very strict and overkill, there are cameras covering every inch of the facility and every door needs a badge in and badge out. Some doors malfunction and it counts against you; affecting raises and/or promotions, because the security people don’t know how to analyze the video vs. door badge data. A lot of time, money and effort/hassle can be minimized by having a secure entryway, and then locking doors accessible by badge level. They pay well, have ridiculous unnecessary requirements, laidback environment until a critical event occurs, then you act. Working on one of the teams is much better.

Chill but busy, however, team dependent.
Software Engineer Intern (ancien employé) - Seattle, WA - 19 novembre 2022
I worked in an internal AWS team and it was pretty fun to work in. I learned a lot and vibed with everyone there. There was a lot of work to do but it forces you to grow as a SWE.

It All Depends What Kind of Manager You Have
Deal Desk Manager (employé actuel) - Remote - 17 novembre 2022
Your experience at AWS is all subjective to who your manager is. I've had great managers, ok managers and narcissistic managers. Politics and tenured leadership get in the way of innovation even though AWS preaches that they are innovative. Use this opportunity as a career jumper. Most people do not stay longer than two years.
Points positifs
Total Compensation, Affinity Groups, Benefits, Growth
Points négatifs
Culture, Dei, Internal Politics, Cut Throat, Competitive, Toxic leadership and peers

Good Work-Life balance, everything else not so much
Business Analyst Intern (ancien employé) - Seattle, WA - 14 novembre 2022
Very flexible hours and you can get your work done at your own pace and time. Disorganized leadership and HR department. Lots of moving parts and you can be treated like a number, I guess that's to be expected with a company of this size.

Wonderful team members, uninspiring work
Technical Training Specialist (ancien employé) - Indianapolis, IN - 12 novembre 2022
Most of the people that I worked with at AWS were kind, thoughtful, extremely intelligent, and helpful. The work I was doing was boring and the software used was inadequate. The instructor-led courses were written in PowerPoint. Articulate Rise was encouraged over Storyline despite the accessibility limitations of Rise. Because of security concerns the software we were allowed to use was limited and there was no attempt made to find a substitute for software that did not meet security requirements. Also, I found the hiring process disconcerting. They advertise for a certain job title but don't divulge the fact that there is an internal level at which they hire. The lowest level at AWS is level 4. To determine your level you have to stumble upon it yourself. Also, the promotion process is so convoluted that they have training courses to try to explain the process.

Not worth it
Sr. Technical Program Manager (employé actuel) - Remote - 12 novembre 2022
Pros: Salary Cons: Just about everything else. I've never even come close to hating a job until now. Nothing really ever gets done. It just gets pinned on another team. Absolutely no top down direction from leadership. You are expected to tell them what you should be doing so that they can pin all of the blame on you later when it ultimately fails. Work/life balance is terrible and the PTO offered is a joke. As I said above, the salary is great, but just about everything else will leave you regretting taking the job.
