Worst company to work for

I would give 0 stars to begin with. They don't respect their own employees who work so hard for them. They fired one of my colleagues who had worked so hard for 3 years just because he was having some personal issue and couldn't focus on the job. Apparently performance is the only thing they care.

Amazing Company To Work For

Aside from my team and manager the rest of Amazon is a great place to work for. The benefits are great the culture is amazing. You have access to so many things

Chill but busy, however, team dependent.

I worked in an internal AWS team and it was pretty fun to work in. I learned a lot and vibed with everyone there. There was a lot of work to do but it forces you to grow as a SWE.

It All Depends What Kind of Manager You Have

Your experience at AWS is all subjective to who your manager is. I've had great managers, ok managers and narcissistic managers. Politics and tenured leadership get in the way of innovation even though AWS preaches that they are innovative. Use this opportunity as a career jumper. Most people do not stay longer than two years.

Points positifs

Total Compensation, Affinity Groups, Benefits, Growth

Points négatifs

Culture, Dei, Internal Politics, Cut Throat, Competitive, Toxic leadership and peers

Good Work-Life balance, everything else not so much

Very flexible hours and you can get your work done at your own pace and time. Disorganized leadership and HR department. Lots of moving parts and you can be treated like a number, I guess that's to be expected with a company of this size.

Wonderful team members, uninspiring work

Most of the people that I worked with at AWS were kind, thoughtful, extremely intelligent, and helpful. The work I was doing was boring and the software used was inadequate. The instructor-led courses were written in PowerPoint. Articulate Rise was encouraged over Storyline despite the accessibility limitations of Rise. Because of security concerns the software we were allowed to use was limited and there was no attempt made to find a substitute for software that did not meet security requirements. Also, I found the hiring process disconcerting. They advertise for a certain job title but don't divulge the fact that there is an internal level at which they hire. The lowest level at AWS is level 4. To determine your level you have to stumble upon it yourself. Also, the promotion process is so convoluted that they have training courses to try to explain the process.

Not worth it

Pros: SalaryCons: Just about everything else. I've never even come close to hating a job until now. Nothing really ever gets done. It just gets pinned on another team. Absolutely no top down direction from leadership. You are expected to tell them what you should be doing so that they can pin all of the blame on you later when it ultimately fails. Work/life balance is terrible and the PTO offered is a joke. As I said above, the salary is great, but just about everything else will leave you regretting taking the job.

Stress free and easy to understand work

A typical day at work goes very smoothly and helping out other team members with some fun activities as well. Even though it is an operational job but still you do have targets of getting some percent of precision which affect your promotions . Which according to me is little unfair though.

Horrible training and cares only about numbers

Expects me to know everything about the services they provide and to fix issues consistently. Micromanaged and constantly feeling behind on things. Looked down open for taking only two days of PTO.

Good Pay, not great career advancement

I am overachieving most of my goals but they seem to not get me any closer to a promotion. The culture is good and the work/life balance is also great along with the pay. You are allowed to work on your own schedule

Fast paced work with little support

Easy, with a high turn over rate. Either management likes you and you're good or they don't and you're not. Supervisory roles will watch as you burn only assisting when it becomes detrimental and the show cannot go on. Biased leaders that harass employees over regulations they themselves don't follow. Company is good some leadership like anywhere else is bad..

Horrible promotion process

Under paid for what you’re expected To do. The promotion process is horrible. You “stretch” into your interested role basically doing the work at the level you’re at until you can prove you can raise the bar. So basically you do the work without the pay/tenure/official title.

Amazing working experience

I cannot express how happy I have been working with such an amazing team and environment. Every day really is Day 1. If you're looking to learn something new everyday, this is the place

Challenging and often overwhelming

My experience has been challenging and overwhelming to say the least. The training program has a long way to go and the business is growing at lightning speed. The change management process is an absolute beast and consumes the time of much of the man power within data center engineering operations. If you've never worked in a highly secure environment such as a data center, it is extremely cumbersome to do even the most basic tasks which is draining. Amazon gets many things right but the data center world is very much in its early stages and is not very refined. There are and will continue to be many growing pains in this work place. High employee turnover is proof that employment here is difficult. Tons of rooms to grow and develop as an employee but don't expect much help in the form of training. The pay is above average but you will earn every cent. Amazon’s benefits are nothing special and they give less paid holidays than other companies I have worked for.

Okay

It's okay, you must stay working, breaks aren't enough time. It takes at least 2mins to get from your work station to the break room and most of the times the microwave is full so you have to wait.

It’s a little overwork

It’s nice to work here ! The team is very helpful especially managers but they require to come to Virginia starting January which I think is not necessary

Extremely fast-paced!

Overall a good company with lots and lots of benefits. It’s a very fast-paced environment with extremely high demands (sometimes ridiculous). Your excellent performance yesterday means nothing the following; you have to produce excellent performance on a consistently. You cannot drop the bar.

Gross place to work

Fired me for applying for a Covid leave and having a negative test. All shifts are mandatory 10 with mandatory overtime which which may be nice to some bite I found to be pointless as I did not want to work it because I do not like working more than 40 hrs a week. The management will treat you like a number than an actual human being with a mind body and soul.

Pleasant surprise for a warehouse job

DUT7 has relaxed and friendly management. Pull, stow, and pick are easy and mind-numbing as long as you have the build for it, I'm 5' and 100lbs and struggled with soreness and fatigue, during and after work.

Points positifs

mindless work, guaranteed the hours you sign up for, job security and speedy hiring process

Points négatifs

moderate/upper moderate labor, fatigue, soreness

AWS Recruiting is fun but it's a grind. especially in sourcing

Great benefits and culture but at AWS your experience is based on your team composition and dynamic.Management is easy to talk to but very direct and results oriented.
