I have been here for over a year and compared to other places I've worked at in Italy, Alstom is pretty decent. We have a cafeteria, paid time off, paid extra time/overnight. It's STRESSFUL but somehow you get to cope with it. Management is ok. The work environment (at least for me) is great, my jobmates are like brothers to me. The salary is higher than at many other places.

The typical work day started at 07:00 and ended at 16:30. These working hours were from Monday to Thursday. On a Friday we started to work at 07:00 and finished the day at 13:00. The day would start off with the actual planning and make sure that the most urgent work gets done first. I learned that team work reaped great rewards and that in a multi-cultural environment people can work together if they put their minds to it. The hardest part of the job was working with fellow associates from different departments that did not worked towards the company's main objectives and goals. The most enjoyable part of the job was, when there were unforeseen issues that had to get resolved and if additional work were received and plans had to be made to get materials in, in order to supply clients there products JIT. The social engagement after hours, were we would go and play action cricket and go-carting was also one of the things that helped us to build a bigger and better team.

meeting new people
can be stressful at times
Alstom can be a nightmare to work at because their processes are overly bureaucratic. Everything comes to you as an emergency but will need a handful of approvals, all excessive paperwork processed, and mix that with the confusion of inexperience it is tough to get anything done at all. There is high turnover due to company not hiring enough people to cover the workload with all the challenges needed to achieve daily goals. Alstom does pay well if you negotiate properly and has some of the best benefits also with fantastic healthcare and 401K match. They also will support travel to Alstom locations around the globe. I personally have been blessed with very good management as well.
Travel, healthcare, 401K match
Overly Bureaucratic & Long Hours
Hectic and disorganized and little to no training. The hardest part of the job was the language barrier. Great people and exciting new project were the highlights

> My work is quite cool and good for the learner. > Basically i am from electrical background and i am looking for the procurement of mechanical components also. > I learned very well about reading of mechanical drawings and got in touch with different kind of manufacturer of the same. > I got a very good control on negotiation skills as well as technical skills by visiting workshop of Alstom and supplier unit. > My co-workers are good and very supportive. > The most enjoyable part of the job is i got in contact with many different kind of people which really helped me in improving my knowledge and gave edge to my networking. > I can say the hardest part of this job is i am not getting change in my profile which really makes me feel like a non-compatible sometimes. That is why i always learn many things from different people to make my knowledge superior.
Working at Alstom was enjoyable especially because of a team that worked together and sloved issues on a day to day basis. Learning the 8D, 6-Sigma, VET, VSM made everyday a learning curve and i even got the opportunity to apply the learning to real life projects obtaining results.
