Alstom was bought by General Electric. General Electric purchased Alstom, and resulted in the company downsizing significantly. Many of the offices in the US have been closed, and many of the ones still open are downsizing, and could be closed in the future
Typical day at work was busy checking in, receiving, and inventorying materials. I also spent a lot of time on the computer and phone dealing with shortages, etc. I learned a lot about material handling and filing reports. Management was the best! Good to work for. Workplace culture was mostly blue collar workers. Sometimes confused about who I worked for. Lots of perks from management. Dinners, clothing, and gifts.
Flew me home once a month, or flew my wife to see me
Didn'e receive per diem, when my co-workers did

Alstom was a good company to work for. Great benefits, good working environment. Company has now been sold to GE and the unit I worked in has been closed down. I left prior to the sale due to my displeasure in lack of work and some of managements decisions. Another opportunity presented itself and I chose to take it, since things were slowing down.
I managed a $300+million project with about 500 subcontractors and numerous employees. I worked with the project engineers and project manager to control costs when possible.
Like to project and staff
My supervisor was an alcoholic and difficult to work with
I worked as a Mechanical Engineer, then a Lead mechanical engineer supervising up to 15 mechanical Engineers. Wrote specifications and bought skid equipment.
Fun work with large equipment.
