Not an awful place to work but also snot the best

I feel that management is less the desirable. They do NOT promote from with in like they should. If you do a good job you get stuck in that position. It is sad to say that the better you are the worse your chances are for a promotion.

Processes for everything, but mostly not respected

Quite high turnover of American workers. Those who came from other sites around the world do create a diverse work environment. On the other hand, it's very prone to cliques and favoritism, specially around a certain nationality.Overall, the experience in the office is OK, but that's it. As people leave, those who stay end up overwhelmed.Processes are confusing, quite demanding and not adapted to local execution. Not a good place to learn how to do anything, but if you come in from a similar role in a different industry, you may be able to thrive.

They don't care about you.

Alstom is not good. They don't care about employees, management doesn't have a clue what they're doing and when they get yelled at from their supervisors for things that are their fault, they blame production... They don't care. Never been so stressed in my life. I feel bad for Amtrak.

A warehouse atmosphere with NO TEAM WORK. Supervisors don't know the job they're responsible ro run. They're desk sitters!

The warehouse is ran horribly. The place has anyone train you. They don't make sure you know the job. They leave you be after day 2. You can't work without help, and no one is willing to help you. They suck you in by good hours, decent pay, benefits and 401k. But, once you start. You're threatened ot 18 plus hours a week or more. You're not appreciated. You will stand around looking lazy, because your trainers actual think you're a threat or bother, nor an asset. The job itself is pretty easy. Once you get things done in 4 or 5 months. They throw you into a job that requires machine certification, but never certify you on the machines. Then you're threatened to be booted for low #'s, yet you can't pull your work without that " partner" " trainer" helping. They're suppose to help you with high parts, until youre certified. But they'll swear and treat you like trash. McDonald's pays 11 cents less an hour, save yourself the headache, and work there.

Don't expect support from management

Anyone that isn't a manager will bend over backwards to help you. Anyone actually with a management title or higher will provide impossible tasks at the last possible minute even when they've known about it for weeks.There is almost never a clear scope of work on projects. Managers expect you to be mind readers. Managers are afraid of other managers and won't deal with problems until a Director level is involved. Problems will stay open for years without being solved until the last possible minute. This causes stress for no reason other than the Managers 9 times out of 10 don't know how to lead their own departments.If you're from the United States, be prepared to be looked over for promotions. The company will either hire from outside or from a different site all together.

Good

Work was demanding at times. Fellow employees were very enjoyable. Benefits were very good. Health care, defined contribution plan and overall compensation very good. Overall a very good career.

Not bad, but not great

I've worked in areas with better-organized management. Not to say having a meeting for another meeting gets old quick. The pay is not bad and from what I experienced most of the staff is good to work with. They just really need to improve their communication.

Difficult to get the training and help needed

Bad communication throughout the entire company. If you need help, people say they're happy to held you, but often show up late to meetings or are too busy in general to help.

Challenging, you are just a number

I have worked for Alstom for quite some time. But they have the local market for being the biggest employer. So they don’t have to pay the salaries that other companies would. The work is challenging and your scope is never ending. I have made a lot of friends but because of the work environment also lost some. Management is only interested in numbers, moral is low, and overall moods are in the gutter.

Somewhat happy

I loved working at Alstom, at first...but as it got closer to the Holidays, the management team showed their true colors...they don't care one ioda about you...or your family!!! All that matters is the "project ".... I know that's important, but so isn't your employee!!! They don't see it that way!!

Don’t get hurt

Don’t get hurt on the job. They will find a way to fire and harass you. This is a terrible place of employment. They lie and cheat. Supervisors have no real work ethic either.

work environment

from day one, the work environment is not something i would recommend to others. The work place is very old and not well maintained, lots of hazards everywhere you go. Most people are not willing to help, they look at it as being bothered. Quality of product is very low even though it deals with carrying passengers.

High stress environment , and managers with poor interpersonal skills. Weakness`s identified by inspector general,All management has been together for years so nothing changes.

Alstom Fire Drill

Always a fire drill at Alstom. Big turnover of people company. Spent five weeks at corporate headquarters in Paris and the managers did not even know I had been sent there for the project for three weeks. Planning is not one of the company strong points. Culture is an ole boy network.

Working at Alstom

I worked a typical 7-3:30 work day. Most of the people I worked with I have known for over 20 years and it feels like home. Started in this facility when Alstom first came to Hornell. Quite a few management changes but overall my job hasn't changed. Pay and benefits are right on course for this industry and this location.

Moral is dead.

There is no moral. Everyone that I worked with hates the place and treatment. There union doesn't seem to have a back bone. They don't care for the workers.They treat you as a modern slave almost. too many childish rules for the worker, then for the office workers. Management looks down at the workers. HR is horrible don't trust the head Guy in there. Can't pay there bills and vendors on a timely mater. So your always waiting for parts cause they won't bring them until they get paid. Then they complain when you are not getting things done. Then make you work overtime with no parts to get the job done Really? Who dose that? Or theirs a big rush on something that needs done ASAP and you get done and it sits there for over a week or 2 or 3. Who's Running this place? a Child? Just Feels like there something shady is going on with the upper management and with the money. Like spend $100,000. on equipment but complain if you need or missing parts. It takes weeks to get while you could of gone to the store in town to get in minutes. Organized Far from it. There is a lot of office workers and the place still runs unorganized. You got multiple people from different countries and speck different languages which is great and awesome, but theirs seems a lack of communication going on the line. Some engineers have the worker figure out how to put something together and then draw plains on how the worker put it together and take the credit. Isn't that their job, and why they are getting the big bucks. Instead riding a workers coat tails that's getting $13-16 a hour. Or better yet building -
